Emergency dental appointments

Toothache can be extremely uncomfortable, and we pride ourselves on offering prompt appointments and practical solutions for our registered patients experiencing acute dental problems.

If you have a dental emergency during our opening hours, please call the practice as early in the day as possible. Our reception team will ask a few questions about your symptoms so we can assess the urgency of your situation and arrange an appointment based on the severity of the problem.

For registered Denplan patients, emergency visits during practice opening hours are covered under your plan. For private patients, unscheduled emergency appointments are charged at £44.00.

Out-of-hours dental advice

If you have a dental issue outside our usual opening hours, please call the practice for advice.

From Monday to Thursday evenings, we can offer advice and, where necessary, arrange for you to be seen the following day.

From Friday evening until Monday morning, please call NHS 111 and select the dental option.

Our dentists are affiliated with the emergency dental clinic sessions at Chalmers Dental Centre, which supports patients across Edinburgh and East Lothian. This service provides access to nurse-supported care, medicines and an organised appointment system.

If you are a registered Denplan patient and incur a charge at Chalmers Dental Centre, please contact the practice so we can arrange reimbursement.

Why we use the central emergency service

GDC guidance requires dentists providing out-of-hours care to be appropriately supported, including having a chaperone and a team available to assist with emergency medical situations such as CPR provision.

For this reason, we now utilise the central emergency service that our dentists also help to cover. Our own dentists provide cover for 18 separate weekends each year, ensuring patients across the local area can access safe, supported emergency dental care when needed.
